MTG Assassin's Creed - Magic: The Gathering

Old and Returning Mechanics

This Release Introduces a Brand-New MTG Mechanic and Revives Some Classic Rules

The Magic: The Gathering - Assassin’s Creed release brings back some old mechanics, but also introduces something totally new: Freerunning! Mimicking the iconic AC movement, Freerunning lets you cast spells for a reduced cost. Get ready for some parkour magic action!

Freerunning

Card Description
MTG Achilles Davenport

Name: Achilles Davenport
Color: Multi-Color
Cost: 2UB
Card Type: Legendary Creature - Human Assassin
Card Text: Freerunning {U}{B} (You may cast this spell for its freerunning cost if you dealt combat damage to a player this turn with an Assassin or commander.)
Menace (This creature can’t be blocked except by two or more creatures.)
Other Assassins you control get +1/+1.
Pow/Tgh: 3/3
Rarity: R
Artist: Josu Solano
Card Number: 294
Set Name: Assassin's Creed

No commander? No problem! With the new Freerunning mechanic in the Magic: The Gathering - Assassin’s Creed set, all you need is an Assassin who’s landed a hit earlier in the turn. Even better, the target has to be just a player, and your Assassin doesn’t even need to be alive to count. Just deal some combat damage, and voila! You can cast spells at a reduced cost, making you feel as nimble as an Assassin leaping across rooftops. And don’t worry, if you prefer the classic way, you can always pay the normal mana cost.

Historic

Card Description
MTG Abstergo Entertainment

Name: Abstergo Entertainment
Color: Land
Card Type: Legendary Land
Card Text: {T}: Add {C}.
{1}, {T}: Add one mana of any color.
{3}, {T}, Exile Abstergo Entertainment: Return up to one target historic card from your graveyard to your hand, then exile all graveyards. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic.)
“We make history yours!”
Rarity: R
Artist: Alexander Gering
Card Number: 079
Set Name: Assassin's Creed

Returning mechanics include Historic, Disguise, and Cloak — perfect fits for the Assassin’s Creed vibe. Historic covers artifacts, legendary cards, and Sagas, so players should keep an eye out for anything labeled “historic” because these cards love to team up with each other. Think of it as a high school reunion for your deck: everyone’s showing off their cool artifacts and legendary tales while plotting their next big move!

Disguise

Card Description
MTG Bayek of Siwa

Name: Bayek of Siwa
Color: Multi-Color
Cost: 3RW
Card Type: Legendary Creature - Human Assassin
Card Text: Double strike
As long as it’s your turn, other historic creatures you control have double strike.
Disguise {1}{R}{W} (You may cast this card face down for {3} as a 2/2 creature with ward {2}. Turn it face up any time for its disguise cost.)
“Our will never rests …”
Pow/Tgh: 3/4
Rarity: R
Artist: JB Casacop
Card Number: 050
Set Name: Assassin's Creed

Tapping into the assassin’s need for stealth, the Disguise mechanic lets you cast a card face down, hiding its true nature from your opponent. Your foe might attack what they think is a harmless 2/2 creature, only to find out it's Bayek of Siwa, ready to unleash an unexpected 6 damage. It's like a game of hide-and-stab!

Cloak

Card Description
MTG Become Anonymous

Name: Become Anonymous
Color: Blue
Cost: 2UU
Card Type: Instant
Card Text: Exile target nontoken creature you own and the top two cards of your library in a face-down pile, shuffle that pile, then cloak those cards. They enter the battlefield tapped. (To cloak a card, put it onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature with ward {2}. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it’s a creature card.)
Rarity: U
Artist: Alice Xia Zhang
Card Number: 014
Set Name: Assassin's Creed

Next up is the Cloak mechanic. When you cloak a card, it becomes a mysterious 2/2 colorless creature with no name, no creature types, no mana cost, no other abilities, and a ward {2}, basically, the most boring ninja ever. The twist? You can reveal a cloaked card anytime by paying its mana cost, assuming it's a creature. Surprise, it's an Assassin!
